Brussels calling

by The Low Countries 16. January 2008 14:38

Newsflash! Not just in, but still quite fresh and slightly hot. Last week the News Service of the Flemish Radio and Televison (VRT) launched its new website. Not just a revamped version of the old trusty place, but a true surfers’ delight with weblogs, plenty of videos, RSS and updates galore for news junkies.

The English-language section of the new site makes local news available to the global community: from the Smurfs celebrating their 50th anniversary to the sweet relief of the fact that the designation 'Belgian jenever' and 'Belgian grain jenever' and origin names such as Balegemse jenever, Hasselt jenever, O' de Flander and Peket de Wallonie are now protected names world-wide, thanks to the European Council of Ministers.

One quick remark though. There’s also a Flanders Today section, but do not get confused. There’s still another Flanders Today on the net, but the latter one is the e-version of an excellent and fairly new independent weekly newsmagazine on Flanders. So, keep it in mind: two ‘Flanders Today’ for you folks out there, and both are great sources of information on this here parts. We just love to keep you on edge with our complexity.
