On February 25 the
Department of Foreign Affairs of the Government of Flanders will officially open the doors of its Flanders House in New York City. This newcomer, located on the 44th floor of the New York Times Building in Manhattan, will also be the home to
Tourist Office of Flanders and
FIT (Flanders Investment and Trade).
Flanders House (FHNY) will promote the region of Flanders (the Dutch-language part of Belgium): tourism, economy, culture, science and education will be on the menu. That’s a tall order, but it doesn’t stop there: the ultimate ambition is to profile Flanders as a brand name. Information and ‘community building’ will be top priorities towards that goal.
The opening will be celebrated on February 25, 2009 from 6-11 pm. According to the press release, the event will feature an awards ceremony, art exhibit, choral concert and reception. Guests will include Belgian and Flemish dignitaries and diplomats. The three FHNY teams (FIT, Tourist Office for Flanders, International Flanders) will introduce the US to potential business opportunities in Flanders and consult with artists, researchers, tourists, individuals and organisations interested in the region.
