World’s Most Famous Rabbit, Miffy, Turns 55

by thelowcountries 13. April 2010 16:31
Young as she may look, Miffy, the cartoon rabbit created by Dutch illustrator Dick Bruna, has just celebrated her 55th birthday. Being the heroine of a hundred and more children’s books, she remains as popular as ever: how many bunnies have a museum of their own?

As we wrote in The Low Countries Yearbook a while back: “no one in the Low Countries can claim never to have seen any of Dick Bruna’s pictures”.

Part of this bunny's success is undoubtedly due to Dick Bruna's use of primary colours and clever simplification.

Recently, British newspaper The Independent explained why Miffy continues to delight children and adults alike. You can find the article here.
